DTN COMMENTS:  The country is quiet this afternoon, significant trade 
volume will likely be delayed until Wednesday or later. Asking prices are 
around $112 to $113 in the South, but not yet fully established in the 
North. New showlists appear to be mixed, higher in Texas, but lower in 
Kansas, Nebraska/Colorado. 

Today's slaughter totaled 117,000 head, 2,000 more than last week, but 
7,000 below a year ago. Cattle futures closed mostly lower on live 
contracts with nearbys faring better than deferreds, up 115 to off 47. 
Feeder issues ended the day mostly sharply higher with only the spot 
January contract lower, up 172 to off 17. Beef cutouts are expected to 
close higher with light to moderate box movement.
